New F‑Secure Deepfake Detector allows anyone to check images and videos for signs of AI manipulation
HELSINKI (September 17, 2026) — F‑Secure today announced F‑Secure Deepfake Detector, a free online tool designed to help people verify whether suspicious images or videos may have been manipulated using artificial intelligence. The tool is available now on the F‑Secure website and allows users to upload content and receive an immediate assessment of whether it may be a deepfake.
Deepfakes are increasingly used in scams, misinformation campaigns, identity theft schemes, and online harassment. Their realistic appearance makes them difficult to identify, particularly on social media where manipulated content can spread rapidly.
Making deepfake detection accessible to everyone
F‑Secure Deepfake Detector is designed to make verification simple. Users can drag and drop an image or video file into the tool and receive a score indicating whether the content may have been artificially generated or altered.
The tool supports common image formats including JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and BMP, as well as video formats such as MP4 and MOV. It is available in 11 languages, reflecting the global nature of the deepfake threat.
F‑Secure Deepfake Detector is the latest addition to F-Secure’s growing collection of free online tools designed to help people stay safer online. F‑Secure now provides nine freely available tools that help consumers identify scams, check data breaches, and better understand emerging online threats.
Addressing a growing online threat
As generative AI tools become more widely available, deepfakes are increasingly appearing in scams, romance fraud schemes, misleading advertisements, bullying, and harassment.
Recent F‑Secure research found that 84% of consumers are worried that AI will make it impossible to tell what is real online (F-Secure Global Consumer Market Survey 2026, n = 10,000). The finding highlights a growing challenge for consumers trying to decide what they can trust when they encounter suspicious content online.
